Ejike pleased to pass record

Heartland’s goal machine, Bright Ejike is excited to surpass his personal record in the top flight after scoring 11 goals in only the first round of the 2014/15 season.
Ejike, who is in his third season with the Owerri side, finished the first round as joint-top scorer with Sunshine Stars’ Tunde Adeniji.
Interestingly, Ejike is only one goal away from equaling the 12 goals he scored in two seasons (2012/13 & 2013/14) for the Owerri side.
Despite scoring eight goals in the first round last term, the striker experienced a goal drought in the second round as mid-season signing, Bobby Clement scored six goals.
However, he reiterated his desire to score more goals when the second round begins.
“Goal scoring is all about positioning and I’ve improved on that. I’m ready to do better in the second round to boost my tally.
‘I’ve learnt something different. I have to be at the right place and at the right time,” he told supersport.com.
Interestingly, he has also improved from a single brace in 2014.
Ejike scored four goals in his first season at Heartland (2012/13) and increased his tally to 12 goals the next season (2013/2014).
The feat has already earned him a place in the Heartland record books as the first player to score 11 goals in one half of the league.
Former league record scorer, Ishaya Jatau, holds the club (then called Iwuanyanwu Nationale) record of 17 goals in a season while Enyimba’s Mfon Udoh holds the new league record of 23 goals.
